Robots and Artificial Intelligence – Robot word is derived from a Czech word meaning “forced labour”. Czech writer Karel Capek first used the term robot in 1921. Sometime back New York Times told us the same thing but this time we are serious and anxious. thanks to Elon and Sir Steven.
Robots – Hollywood movies telling us since long those Robots are coming to get us, people were enjoying these indications as jokes and science fiction movies.
Robots and Artificial Intelligence
Since the early days; regardless of origin, race, culture or language one speak. We get asked the same question by society “What do you do“. In the old days If the answer was “I do artificial intelligence” then the immediate reaction was “Why don’t you have natural one“. Today if the answer is same then an immediate reaction is “Please don’t hurt me/us”. This is called change. This is called mindset transformation.
AI will help and do betterment for humanity. This kind of revolution tells us where we are heading. If you’re waiting for A.I, look around you-you will find some form of artificial intelligence at work almost everywhere/ Though its pinnacle will take around 50 or more years; machine consciousness is indomitable will happen sooner or later.
Robots can fail, as reason is very simple; which is machine learning models are not sufficiently accurate or can’t be accurate without lots of data and lots of training. Robots are well suited for work where human are at significant risk, the economics or menial nature of the application result in inefficient use of human workers, and for humanitarian uses where there is a great risk.
Will Robots Going To Take Our Jobs?
Robots or AI enabled AI taking our jobs is still far not in the next 50 years or so. Robots have to pass basic four tests to attain some level of confidence and maturity (in my personal opinion).
- Turning test
- Acquire a college degree to be fully qualified
- Work as an employee for at least 20 years and perform well.
- Get promotions and attain ASI status.
As per Robot Institute of America robot is “A programmable, multifunction manipulator designed to move material, parts, tools or specific devices through variable programmed motions for the performance of a variety of tasks”. We all know in human emotions help prevent people from repeating their mistakes and learning from decisions that resulted or went wrong in the past i.e. negative feelings. In Robots recognizing emotions would allow robots to become more responsive to users’ needs and exhibiting emotions would help robots interact with humans.
Interestingly robotics with AI have very peculiar behaviour which is dependent on the owner’s behaviour i.e. who made it (ya looks like godfather concept). In this analogy, the programmer is the learning machine’s parent i.e. like father like son …. may be true. Robots are no longer restricted to a structured environment and interestingly can learn like humans and works well side by side with a human in a much more faster and efficient manner.
Artificial intelligence is the only technology which is going directly from disappointment to deadly with being beneficial in between. Lemmatization of artificial intelligence has many names i.e. narrow, strong/general or super also its subsets i.e machine learning, machine intelligence, machine consciousness, deep learning etc.
Is Artificial Intelligence Stop-able?
Can we really stop this storm of artificial intelligence answer is definitely no as innovations have no stop button? Can we regulate it; the answer is yes for sure it can be regulated. Regulation can define boundaries and limits the usage level of AI in each domain of today’s work.
Word of caution regulatory framework should not be taken as benefit or money producing a machine for some or a few people or to kill it. When AI is used most effectively, you won’t even know it’s being used. It will be running in the background as mentioned previously.
Still confused then check your pocket for your smartphone. We all have very soothing female voice virtual personal assistant on our phones i.e. Siri, Cortana etc. Be careful and don’t fall in love as this is a voice processing algorithm only. All this happens based on Natural Language Processing (NLP) which is known as procedure/software built in systems/ device that can understand and process language.
NLP comes under Artificial Intelligence. The well-known joke in robotics, “robots are good for the 3 D’s: jobs that are dirty, dull, or dangerous”.
Robots Task Orientations
Robots were never a single task machine in my own definition and now for real moving beyond factory or workshop floors. They can handle with less dynamic or human controls e.g in hospitals they roam safely to deliver medicines, help in operation theatres, delivery towels in hotel and minibar items. Also entered into pleasure industry to sleep with a human. All thanks to sensors and smart technology as new generations robots are much more safe to live with.
Soon a cloud-based virtual assistant will take over control to our emails, SMS, contacts and social media by talking to us in a warm and husky voice who will prove to you that knows you better then your brother, mother, your friend or even your very own wife (soon to be ex if you don’t control your self).
Soon suggestion and direction will come through for what to do next and human will become a robot. One hour downtime of such assistant will bring our life to stand still. Don’t worry your infatuation eventually cools off after you realize she is carrying on equally intimate conversations with thousands of other customers. Learning in robots is getting the same as humans learning process i.e. trial and error. Helping customers on the internet is in use from decades anyways but growing old, matured and smart as human do.
Robotics & Robot Behaviour
A behaviour-based approach to action selection in cooperative robotics ranging from reflexive to super smart agents that incorporates models of motivations to enable robots to cooperate without explicitly negotiating or instructed. Using robots for environmental remediation and restoration of irradiated and polluted sites.
Manufacturing and AI, currently appear to be merging. Manufacturing is now shifting to a “mass customization” phase, where companies that can economically make short runs of special order goods are thriving. Example self-driving car to take you to work or to an appointment, drive home and park for free and then return later to pick you up.
The pressure is on for industrial robots, more correctly referred to as industrial manipulators, to be rapidly reprogrammed and more forgiving if a part isn’t placed exactly as expected in its workspace. As a result, AI techniques are migrating to industrial manipulators.
My question is are we not learning about our own intelligence or handing over our capabilities to machines. As per professor Andrew, machine learning is a revolution in the history of mankind first one was where machines came and took our basic jobs to make us faster and our life easy. Now to me, this second one is coming to make us lazy and heavily dependent. The technique that made easy work easy possibly is no longer AI, but something mundane.
Different users need different tools (Customer Perspective)
There is a need for an automated security assistant that learns the needs of the individual user and helps them to apply security tools. For me as an individual, my automation needs are data confidentiality, data-loss tolerance limits and recovery costs, my privacy. On the back-end, a machine needs to learn my usage patterns, technical knowledge and security choices I make.
In today’s time innovation is fuelled by advancement in computing power and connectivity has led to tremendous growth in the fields of robotics. Artificial intelligence on top has taken it to another level. With technology advancing at breakneck speeds and demystifying robotics and artificial intelligence with new applications, machinery, and ultra-fast process in business, factories and homes in short from teleportation to autonomy.
History doesn’t lie anyways robots were used in the military and industry invested in robotics in order to build nuclear weapons and power plants, this is where things would go tribally wrong.
Disclaimer – We at AILabPage are big fan, follower and lovers of everything about AI which can bring only best and good enough treats for humankind. We do not claim or justify that “Apple Siri” or such services are robots.

Conclusion – We should see in next couple of years a vast improvement in current state-of-the-art machine learning in cyber-security, payment intelligence and info-security intelligence. Instead, business silently gravitates toward the subtasks that have implicitly performed. Classic example for this in AI is a critical tool to improve customer experience i.e. facial recognition technology, which is 10 to 15 times more accurate than human beings at identifying people.
